“Our pets have a magical ability to bring us joy and happiness and so we want to do all we can to ensure their health and wellbeing. We can do so much more to help combat pain in our companion animals, and it’s a pleasure to be able to provide that support and relief.

By focussing my veterinary practice on acupuncture I can really give my clients and their animals the time and attention they deserve.”

Katie Hickey, Head Vet at South Devon Veterinary Acupuncture

This short video shows Katie treating Darcy at home. Darcy is an 11 year old Greyhound who has been having trouble with her right hind leg. Darcy is currently receiving conventional medicines such as monthly Librela injections and some pain relief medication. Acupuncture is an additional therapy to ensure Darcy has the best quality of life possible.

Acupuncture can be carried out at home or in a vet clinic. Treatments are very relaxed and can include other family members as you see in this short clip!

Katie is a qualified veterinary surgeon with 14 years experience. Katie trained in veterinary acupuncture in 2017 and is a member of the Association of British Veterinary Acupuncturists (ABVA).

Katie lives in Kingsbridge in the South Hams with her husband, three children and multiple animals. Katie is currently working as a small animal vet in Plymouth at Rosehill Vets three days a week.

When Katie is not working she enjoys walks and swimming in the sea with her English Pointer.

Katie loves the time and freedom that focussing on acupuncture allows her, “I feel like I really get to know the people and build a good trusting relationship with the animals as well. So much of veterinary practice is fast paced now and having the ability to slow down and be really present with my clients feels like a luxury.”
